These three murals by Malditas Ternura constitute a reinterpretation of the painting Forest landscape with elegant hunting party (1614) by the Flemish master Denis van Alsloot (1570-1626). The original is exhibited close to the interpretation in the Alte Galerie of the Universalmuseum Joanneum.

Nature romanticized

This work by Denis van Alsloot, known as a pioneer of Brussels landscape painting, shows a majestic scene featuring an aristocratic hunting party in the midst of a dense forest landscape. The painting combines realistic depictions of nature with scenes of life at court, bringing the nobility and nature together in idealized harmony in a manner frequently observed in seventeenth-century art.

Nature, wildlife and architecture

The Argentinian artist collective Malditas Ternura has reinterpreted the painting on three adjacent end walls of residential buildings. The artists in the collective fuse graphic elements with traditional painting. Their previous works drawing on other artists’ creations made them an ideal choice for Kaiserschild Walls of Vision. Malditas Ternura have dedicated each wall to a theme stemming from van Alsloot’s forest landscape: nature, wildlife, and architecture.

Original and reinterpretation side by side

The location of the reinterpretation in the urban space of Graz enables you to directly compare it to the original painting in Schloss Eggenberg’s Alte Galerie.
