Dr. Hans Riegel-Awards

Awards for outstanding final theses

The Dr Hans Riegel-Awards recognise outstanding final theses by school leavers in the STEM subjects. The Kaiserschild Foundation runs this project in collaboration with Austrian universities.

Students taking their school-leaving exams at high schools (AHS) have the opportunity to submit their final theses to the university responsible for their federal state in the subjects specified in the call for entries. A specialist jury from the university assesses the academic quality of the theses, and the Kaiserschild Foundation honours the top three theses in each subject. .In addition, the Foundation recognises the schools at which first-prize-winning projects were developed by presenting them with non-cash awards. The prizes are awarded annually at the respective university.

Connection between schools and universities

The Dr Hans Riegel-Awards recognise the work of young people and aim to encourage talented young scholars, through this honour, to pursue an educational and career path in the natural sciences or technical fields. Furthermore, the Awards act as a bridge between schools and universities by fostering exchange between these institutions and connecting the award-winning A-level students to the higher education system.

Networking in the STEM sector

Recipients of the Dr Hans Riegel-Awards have the opportunity, following the award ceremony, to take part in MINT TANK, a programme run by the Kaiserschild Foundation and the Dr Hans Riegel Foundation that offers networking and professional development opportunities.
